My approach

One appointment, whichever tools the problem needs

Acupuncture, bodywork and coaching aren't billed as separate visits here. Tara draws on all of them in the same session, guided by what she finds on the table that day.

Acupuncture

A safe, effective, chemical-free way to promote the body's self-healing abilities through the restoration of balance and blood flow. Used to treat the root of an issue, to prevent and treat disease, relieve pain, balance mood, increase fertility, enhance athletic performance, and improve overall health and wellness.

  • Sterile, single-use needles — always
  • Points selected for both root pattern and today's symptoms
  • Most patients report treatments are relaxing, not painful
  • 20 minutes of quiet rest with needles retained

Medical Massage & Tui Na

The massage techniques Tara uses are designed to rehabilitate an injured area or muscle — Medical Massage (Neuromuscular Therapy), Chinese Sports Medicine and Tui Na (Chinese Massage Therapy). Therapeutic Massage is also offered as a stand-alone treatment.

  • Neuromuscular Therapy for trigger points and nerve entrapment
  • Tui Na — Chinese manual therapy along the meridians
  • Available inside an acupuncture visit or on its own
  • Licensed in Colorado massage therapy since 1999

Chinese Cupping

The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system. Particularly useful for stubborn tight bands across the upper back and shoulders that don't respond to direct pressure.

  • Loosens muscle and fascia without deep direct pressure
  • Encourages local blood flow to stagnant tissue
  • Calming effect on an over-revved nervous system
  • Temporary circular marks are normal and fade in days

Chinese Sports Medicine

Tara's specialization. Acute and chronic athletic injury treated with a combination of point selection, manual therapy and rehab-minded thinking — for recreational athletes, weekend warriors and anyone whose job is physical.

  • Sprains, strains, tendinopathy and overuse injury
  • Return-to-activity guidance, not just pain relief
  • Enhance athletic performance and recovery between efforts
  • Works alongside your chiropractor or physical therapist

Health Coaching & Chinese Herbs

Depending on your distinct imbalance, there may be a combination of specific food choices, Chinese herbal remedies, acupuncture, massage techniques, and lifestyle changes suggested to effectively treat your whole system and, in turn, restore and maintain long-term health.

  • Food-as-medicine guidance matched to your pattern
  • Chinese herbal formulas where appropriate
  • Realistic lifestyle changes — not an all-or-nothing overhaul
  • Follow-up between visits so plans actually get used

Stress, Sleep & Smoking Cessation

Treatment isn't only for what already hurts. Acupuncture is well used for balancing mood, improving sleep quality, managing stress load, and supporting people through smoking cessation — one of the most requested treatments at the clinic.

  • Smoking cessation protocols with a supporting health plan
  • Sleep quality and difficulty winding down
  • Stress load, anxiety and mood regulation
  • Seasonal and preventive tune-up visits

How it works

What to expect, start to finish

No guessing about what happens when. Here is exactly how a course of care runs at the clinic.

Download and print the intake forms before you come, or arrive 20 minutes early to fill them out at the office. Either way, the paperwork happens before your appointment time — not during it.

Consultation

The first 15–20 minutes are a one-on-one, in-depth conversation to elaborate on your forms and make sure Tara has a very clear understanding of your present state of being and how you got that way.

Your first treatment

Points are selected on the body, limbs and/or head to correct the underlying pattern of disharmony, with additional points added specifically to relieve current symptoms. Once needles are placed, you'll rest quietly for up to 20 minutes.

Follow-up treatments

All treatments after the first session last one hour. Arrive at least five minutes early so you can settle. Each appointment begins with a review of progress since the last session to confirm the focus is still right.

Questions

Frequently asked

If your question isn't here, just call — Tara would rather answer it before you book.

Most patients report that acupuncture treatments are not only relatively painless, but also extremely relaxing. Acupuncture needles are hair-fine and nothing like a hypodermic needle. You may feel a brief dull heaviness or a travelling sensation at a point — that's normal and usually fades within seconds.
Ninety minutes. The first 15–20 minutes are your consultation; the treatment follows. Every appointment after that lasts one hour.
Your completed intake forms (download links are above), a list of any medications or supplements you take, and loose comfortable clothing. Arrive 20 minutes early if you'd rather fill the forms out at the office.
It depends entirely on what you're being treated for and how long it's been going on. Acute issues often respond in a handful of visits; long-standing chronic patterns take longer. Tara will give you an honest estimate after your consultation and will tell you when you no longer need to come in.
Yes. Therapeutic Massage is offered as a stand-alone treatment, and Tara has held a Colorado Massage Therapy License since 1999.
Acupuncture is a chemical-free therapy that works well as a complement to conventional care — many patients are referred by their chiropractor or physician. Always keep your prescribing doctor informed, and never stop a prescribed medication without talking to them first.
